It all started with a pine cone

A lot has happened in the last little bit so I figured it was a good time to blog and get everyone up to speed on our lives. It all started on Wednesday 1/5. Meric and I were trying to get back into our workout routine and when running that morning. It has been a while since I have run, but I was pushing myself and doing pretty well. We were just about done when I stepped on a pine cone and twisted my ankle. It was pretty bad, all bruised and swollen. I stayed off it for a couple days and have been wrapping it. Now almost 2 weeks later I think I can run again even though it still aches sometimes. (Proof I am my father's daughter: I won't see a doctor and am just dealing with it.)

Friday 1/7 Meric and I went to a RV show. There were a lot of RVs we walked through and they had some classes that gave us a lot of good information. It was a long day (and my ankle was killing me) but it was well worth it.

Saturday 1/8 we stayed up fairly late (for us) and when we were going to bed the toilet in our bathroom started to overflow. We plunged and everything but it wouldn't go down. (It was a little weird cuz we had just peed and couldn't imagine why it wouldn't flush) The next day Meric took the toilet apart while I was taking a nap. I woke up when he was walking out of the bathroom saying "that is really gross". He got gloves and told me not to go into the bathroom. I offered to get candles or something to help with the smell and he said it wasn't the smell that was gross and it was more gross than I thought. I was a little confused. I asked "what could be worse than poop and toilet paper?" He told me I didn't want to know. Turns out it was an animal (he thinks a big squirrel) somehow got into the pipe, crawled up into our toilet, got stuck and died. I would have to say that is worse than poop and toilet papet and I am forever thankful Meric didn't make me look.

Monday 1/10 it started to snow right while Meric was leaving for work. It was pretty slick out and he got turned around a couple times just going to work. By noon they had shut down Fort Bragg and sent Meric home. It was fun and we made pumpkin cinnamon rolls. Yummy! Over night the snow melted a little and then we got freezing rain. We woke up to everything being covered in a sheet of ice and Meric got another snow day. Wednesday Fort Bragg was on a 4 hour delay so he went into work late. Thursday Meric actually had to work a full day. It would be the only one because this weekend was a 4 day weekend becuase of MLK day. (It will be hard when Meric actually has to work a full week. He hasn't had to since the beginning of December.)

Thursday 1/13 we were planning our trip over night to Danville, VA to look at trailers. Meric came home and notice that the water pressure thoughout the house was low. We didn't think a whole lot of it until around 8pm when we had no water. Turns out a water main burst somewhere in the city and over 50, 000 people (or Fayetteville) had no water. I started stressing about trying to leave the next day with no water, but luckily it was back around 11pm.

Friday 1/14 we headed out for Danville, VA. It is only about 3 hrs away but we wanted plenty of time to look and possibly buy. We looked all day and then went to our hotel, discussed our options and by the next morning we had it narrowed down to 2. We went back looked again and bought our next home. It is a Keystone Raptor 3602 RL toy hauler. It was the more expensive of the two but it had all the options that we are looking for. Now we need to focus on getting rid of most of our stuff. Our plan is to be basically moved in to the trailer by April since our lease is up in May. I am getting nervous. It will be a huge change, but I think it is a good move for us.
So there you have it, the last 2 weeks have been very interesting to say the least.

  1. That is a great story...it would be even better if you moved the "dead squirrel in the toilet" part, to the end. You have ruined pumpkin cinnamon rolls for me forever, thanks!

  2. You should put pictures up when you get all moved in.
